Service Learning

A Bryant education doesn’t just prepare you for professional success. It also fosters your growth as an empathetic and analytical thinker who can make a positive impact on the world around you. Through dynamic coursework, student organizations, and volunteer opportunities, you’ll engage with community partners, apply your skills in meaningful ways, and create tangible change in the process.

Our commitment to service learning and community engagement ensures that you won’t just study the critical issues facing society — you’ll actively engage in addressing them. At Bryant, you’ll gain the knowledge, perspective, and hands-on experience to become a purpose-driven leader.

Through service-learning projects and community partnerships, Bryant students have:

  • Changed the tax status of an animal rescue farm.
  • Provided marketable skills to incarcerated youth.
  • Designed courses to assist first-generation college students.
  • Consulted on communication strategies for a local nonprofit serving immigrants and refugees.
  • Taught English and computer skills to residents of a fishing village in the Dominican Republic.

Community Engagement Beyond the Classroom

In addition to academically connected service-learning projects, Bryant students can participate in immersive community engagement and volunteer experiences throughout the year.

Through volunteer initiatives, service trips, and local partnerships, students work alongside communities locally and globally while developing leadership, cultural awareness, collaboration, and civic responsibility.

Spring Break Service Experiences

Students have participated in immersive service trips to communities including the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and Puerto Rico, partnering with organizations focused on community support, environmental restoration, accessibility projects, and sustainability initiatives.

Projects have included:

  • Home repair and accessibility work
  • Community gardening and sustainability efforts
  • Environmental restoration projects
  • Food and resource support initiatives
  • Community space revitalization

These experiences combine hands-on service with cultural engagement and reflection, helping students build meaningful connections and broaden their understanding of community impact.

Local Community Engagement

Throughout the year, Bryant students also participate in campus and Rhode Island-based community initiatives, including nonprofit partnerships, meal site support, campus cleanups, beautification projects, and community volunteer opportunities.

These experiences encourage students to take an active role in supporting the communities they are part of while reinforcing Bryant’s commitment to engagement, responsibility, and meaningful impact.

Impact Core

Bryant’s general education curriculum — known as the Impact Core — gives you a holistic education rooted in social impact, while also preparing you for a meaningful career. In the experiential “General Education Capstone” course, you’ll collaborate with a community partner to tackle a real-world problem.

Capstones and Directed Studies

Many Bryant academic programs culminate in a senior capstone project or directed study. Work independently or with a team to develop a solution for a real-world problem, or dive into an in-depth research project on a topic that interests you. Our faculty advisors will guide you throughout the process.

Corporate Partnerships

Your education is infused with industry partnerships. Work with businesses and nonprofit organizations to elevate your leadership skills and take your career credentials to the next level.
